On March 7, 2011, the University of Utah, Department of Pharmacy, Drug Information Service issued a health care alert regarding the use of Topamax (Topiramate) by pregnant women during at least the first trimester of pregnancy. Topamax and Birth Defects

On March 4, 2011, the FDA notified healthcare professionals and patients of an increase risk of development of cleft lip and/or cleft palate (oral clefts) in infants born to women treated with Topamax (topiramate) during pregnancy.
