Yaz and Yasmin

Please Note: Yaz and Yasmin are birth control pills, differing slightly in their dosage of a form of estrogen called ethinylestradiol and manufactured by Bayer Healthcare. This form of the hormone has been used in birth control since the ’70s, but Yaz and Yasmin also contain the progestin drospirenone. Drospirenone can cause a dangerous increase in the potassium level in your blood.

If you have been made ill by taking Yaz or Yasmin call the experienced defective drug attorneys of the James Esparza Law Firm at 1-800-745-4050.

Yaz and Yasmin Side Effects

The reported side effects of Yaz and Yasmin include:

  • Blood clots
  • Pulmonary embolism
  • Pancreatitis
  • Stroke
  • Deep vein thrombosis (DVT)
  • Death

Though no recall of Yaz or Yasmin has been announced, drugs containing drospirenone have also been prescribed to reduce bloating and water retention in women who suffer from premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD). Too much of a loss of fluids in the body can cause dehydration, which can lead to blood clots and possibly death.

In fact, a number of deaths associated with these drugs were reported to the Food and Drug Administration. Between 2004 and 2008, 50 deaths occurred that were linked to Yaz and Yasmin. Death resulted from cardiac arrest, cardiac arrhythmia, and blood clots in the heart and lungs, as well as strokes. Deaths include women as young as 17-years-old.
